Biking tour in the rift valley of Nesjavellir in the vicinity of Reykjavik.
Nesjavellir geothermal area is located in a about 45 minutes’ drive from Reykjavik and is a part of the Hengill area. A volcano situated in the southwest of Iceland to the south of Thingvellir. The volcano covers an area of about 100 km².
We will ride the rift valley of Nesjavellir and through the lunar landscape of Nesjahraun lava field north of Mt. Hengill. Nesjahraun lava field lies between the Nesjavellir geothermal area and Lake Þingvallavatn, the largest natural lake in Iceland. We ride toward the lake and cross we might see shield volcanoes, palagonite tuff mountains and glaciers.
The area surrounding the trail is mystical and unforgettable – a combination of rolling hills and mossy lava fields with hot springs and steaming fumaroles. Along the way we see lava craters and fairytale lava sculptures and volcanic formations.
After about 3 hours of biking we will get back to where we head of for a light snack and hot drinks.
